Depends on how cheap junkyard 350's are.

Probably about 5 grand in total, depending on the condition of the frame.
Also pedantic drive by: Defenders only came onto the scene in 1990, before that was the 110/90, Series III, Series IIa, Series II and Series I.

If I could just get this roadworthy, I'd buy it. I don't care how it looks.

I'd be willing to throw like $15k at this thing
if I had $15k. I love old LRs

Hmmm... I think that depends on how you feel about sticking to stock original parts and how handy you are with a welding torch.
If it were me I'd stick something dead simple and reliable under the hood, like the plant from an old hilux or something. I'd patch any structural rust, replace ALL the wiring, put some kind of decent seating in it and just leave the rest alone...
But I'm weird and prefer character to perfect paint or concourse originality.
Estimate a few grand and then double or triple that because that's what happens with project cars.

Character is all I care about as well. Fun and experiencing things are all that is good in the world.

If the engine is still in running condition I'd keep it. Those engines are basically tractor engines and will run forever.

Shows how much I know about early land rovers lol. I've just heard a million bad things about the BL era cars haha.
Id just be worried about finding parts.

Nah, there are tonnes of new parts available for these trucks. About 75%-80% of these things are still on the road and there is a whole industry dedicated to keeping them on the road.

Problem is you can never have "just one", they work themselves into your very essence.
I should know, I grew up in one of these and I'm pretty sure my dad would have a hard time choosing between his truck and me. Which for some reason, some what understand...
AMGtech - now with more recalls!

Fact. I have a friend who has a large shop on his property. In this shop at least 4 classic rover projects, three others that are no longer projects, and hundreds of feet of shelves with rover parts (probably enough to build two more trucks). Behind the shop are more things, like a stack of series frames, drivelines, engines, transmissions, transfer cases, body parts, etc. Some of the things outside are under tents, and everything is in surprisingly good shape though not necessarily good enough to just slap onto something without a little work. And most of the engines are dead rover v8's because let's face it all of those are garbage.

If you do ever get into one, refer to me, thebloody, and several other people on here who have done complete restos on them. We can guide you.

They're not really practical to drive day-to-day, but you *can*. Just as long as you don't plan on getting long distances done on a short schedule.
